Metal-loaded organic scintillators for neutrino physics
Organic liquid scintillators are used in many neutrino physics experiments of the past and present. In particular for low energy neutrinos when realtime and energy information are required, liquid scintillators have several advantages compared to other technologies. In many cases the organic liquid needs to be loaded with metal to enhance the neutrino signal over background events. Several meta...
متن کاملDouble beta decay with large scale Yb-loaded scintillators
The potential of large scale Yb-loaded liquid scintillators as proposed for solar neutrino spectroscopy are investigated with respect to double beta decay. The potential for β−β− decay of Y b as well as the β/EC decay for Y b is discussed. Not only getting for the first time an experimental half-life limit on Y b decay, this will even be at least comparable or better than existing ones from dif...
متن کاملTOF-PET detector concept based on organic scintillators
In this contribution we present a new concept of the large acceptance detector systems based on organic scintillators which may allow for simultaneous diagnostic of large fraction of the human body. Novelty of the concept lies in employing large blocks of polymer scintillators instead of crystals as detectors of annihilation quanta, and in using predominantly the timing of signals instead of th...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Models of Neutron Detection with Organic Scintillators
We describe the use of the MCNP-PoliMi code to simulate, on an event-by-event basis, the detection of neutrons by organic scintillators. This code keeps track of single neutron interactions, including the collision nucleus, the energy deposited, and the time distribution of collision events. We show that the total pulse-height response is given by the sum of many possible neutron histories, eac...
